Next up is Pho Du (10412 -127 Street) in the north. I’d like to thank ‘Pi314′ for suggesting this place, I probably would have never of found this place until I went through the massive list of Vietnamese restaurants in Edmonton even though I used to work close to this area. Keep those requests and suggestions coming!
Offered here is ‘Pho Sate Noodle‘ for $9.55, the meal has a very attractive presentation when it is brought out, everything looks clean and fresh but unfortunately the bean sprouts are already added although there is a decent amount of them in the soup. The soup has a very light brown-ish colour to it and it is loaded with green and white onions and it’s accompanied by a very generous amount of chili paste. There’s a slight peanuty scent from the soup but it does not translate into the taste of the soup. The flavour of the broth is somewhat salty and overly oniony and it’s surprisingly mild for the amount of chili you can see, I could be wrong but I do sense an bit of an overuse of MSG. There’s a nice equal solids to soup ratio with a decent amount of beef in the meal. Near the bottom of the soup, you end up battling through an excess amount of chili flakes and cilantro. Overall, pretty decent middle-of-the-road effort.
